The repertory mainly aims at a family and children's audience, but we also present shows for adults. For years we nurse the old art of story telling at the bonfire in our yurt in the garden. Pedagogical activties complete our programme.

The artist collective theaterkosmos53 led by Rike Schuberty was founded in 2008 and is an open pool of artists in the fields of the performing arts, music and video art. The primary focus is the creation of stage work with various artistic means; acting and music have equal footing with puppetry or video art. We work with artistic colleagues from various fields and bring in experts for work that exceeds our abilities in order to expand the network of theaterkosmos53 step by step.

The Theater o.N. is a 30-year old association of actors and puppeteers, directors, musicians and writers. Founded in 1979 / 80, it was the first independent theater in the former GDR. Then known as Zinnober the group developed groundbreaking productions like “traumhaft” (1985) and “Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten” (1986). Since the 2010 / 11 season, the theater located at the famous Kollwitzplatz is working with a new artistic team, and is focusing on two core areas: in the field of theater for children and young people we are exploring and furthering the still emerging genre of theater for audiences 2 years and up. In 2013, we presented “FRATZ – International Theater Festival for Very Young Audiences”. And we are producing theater for children and young people in socially disadvantaged areas, and are developing productions with grade school children and teenagers. In our program for adults, we are dedicated to new play development using the methods of biographical theater and puppet theater. In 2014, Theater o.N. has been awarded with the George-Tabori-Award (Förderpreis).

Handmaids (in Weiten Theater)
for ages 4 and up
The puppet theater company Handmaids is composed of three freelance puppeteers (Sabine Mittelhammer, Astrid Kjær Jensen, Ulrike Langenbein) who founded the company while studying together at the Ernst Busch Academy of the Dramatic Arts in Berlin. The performers work as an international independent group under the name Handmaids without a permanent performance venue and live in Berlin and Copenhagen. Their productions can be seen at many European festivals. The repertoire includes pieces for adults as well as for children. As an independent group, they work with various artists and each individual members also works outside the company in various roles. The special talent of the Handmaids is to use the tools of acting to animate puppets and objects. Using puppets as the medium allows a special type of communication. This communication lives and dies with the acceptance of the audience. They use their imagination to create new, anarchistic figures that are not subject to the laws of nature.
For nearly 25 years WEITES THEATER for puppets and humans has been representing a professional and large variety of puppet theatre both at home and abroad. With its charming venue WEITES THEATER offers young and old audiences the opportunity of attending high quality theatrical performances.
